Serve As
A Mentor

Commissioner

What Is A Commissioner?

Commissioner is a volunteer adult leader who serves as a mentor and link between Scouting units and the District Committee. They are not leaders within individual units but are District volunteers dedicated to helping units succeed by providing guidance and support.

Commissioners play a vital role by offering resources from the District, such as membership, program development, fundraising, camping opportunities, and event coordination, all drawn from the collective experience of District Committee volunteers.

A Commissioner’s purpose is to ensure that every member of the BSA enjoys a positive Scouting experience. To connect with your Commissioner, simply reach out to your District Commissioner to find out who is assigned to assist your unit.

OUR MISSION

As commissioners, we share the BSA’s mission: To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

OUR VISION

To prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law.

OUR CULTURE

Be the Heart: Scouting’s units are its heart; its success depends on them; they deliver its programs to youth. Commissioners Support unit leaders in developing a safe, welcoming environment and delivering Scouting’s programs effectively. We exist to support Scouting’s heart.

Build Relationships: Commissioners must develop relationships with unit leaders we serve based on mutual respect, candor, and trust. Without that, the communication and collaboration required to support units effectively is impossible.

Change Lives: Scouting changes lives – of the youth it serves and the adults who support it (both volunteers and professionals). As they adopt Scouting’s values, they become engaged citizens who strengthen our communities, nation, and world.
